This weekend I lead a retreat. The theme was Be Filled!. We spent our time answering the question of How One Leads a Spirit-Filled Life? We look at false alternatives, which I want get in to, but the bulk of our time was spent on what we do to be Spirit filled.
Our text was Ephesians 5:18-21. I did not get this in-depth during the retreat (I mean it is a retreat), but the Greek construction on this sentence is important. Verse 18 provides a command: Be filled with the Spirit. This command is followed by a series of participles (these are usually words ending in “ing” in the English text). Now the function of this construction is that the participles tell us how to perform the command. Thus the following “ing” words tell us how we are filled with the Spirit.
So, this weekend I spent my time talking about the three actions Christians can do to be Spirit filled. They are:
1. Singing praises with other Christians to God.
2. Thanking God in everything.
3. Submitting ourselves to one another.
So you want to be Spirit filled, practice these things!
Thanks for reading. The site has been up for two months now and I have been amazed by how many people are reading. Keep sharing with your friends and interact on here sharing your knowledge and wisdom with the rest of the group.
