Christians and “R” Rated Movies

I reader sent in this question to me recently and asked if I would respond to it on the website, so here is my response to the readers question.  I’m going to give my view, but I really hope that others will chime in and give their view as well

First, let me be honest with the fact that the Bible does not directly deal with the subject (as is expected since they did not have modern movies or rating systems), however principles in the Scripture deal with this subject.

Second, there is a certain amount of “gray” here.  Meaning well-meaning genuine Christians will come to different conclusions on the subject.  The main thing is all Christians need to deal with this issue and have convictions on them, while also being willing to listen to others convictions.

Three Goals All Christians Should Set

Three Resolutions We All Should Make from 1 Thessalonians 1:9,10.

When Paul wrote to the Thessalonians he reminded them of three actions they took (and were still taking) when they became Christians.  Three Resolutions  they made because they had been converted.  These same Resolutions are ones that ALL christians should make.  Here they are:

1. Turn from Idols–Although for the most part moderns do not make idols out of wood or stone (although with the new spirituality this is going to become more common place) we still have idols.  Money and Greed are idols for some as they give up their soul in pursuit.  Entertainment can be an idol as we put that above activities that we should be doing. Our televisions are the closest non-living things that we worship today.  Lust has become an idol.  Sex sells and many people are buying to the detriment of their souls.

Goals and Resolutions–Part 5

Now that we have gone through some important prerequisites (read them here) on good Goal setting it is now time to focus on actually setting goals and resolutions. Here are some tips for when we actually set down to write the goals.

1. Pray.  As Christians we want to pray for God to give us wisdom.  Our goals are a tool for us to grow and development as Christians.

2. Evaulate.  Goals begin with self evaluation.  We have to be honest with ourselves about areas that we need to focus on in growth.  Taking some time to write down areas that we need to improve is a good way to start.  When I do this I think through each area of my life (marriage, finances, health, Bible Knowledge, giving, etc…) and then determine where I need to intentionally grow. These are the areas that I will give priority in goal setting.

Goals and Resolutions–Part 4

Take some time to read the earlier posts by clicking here.  Thus far we have discussed the importance of goal setting, qualities of a good goal, and the need to plan on how you will achieve your goals.  This post is going to focus on what type of goals Christians should set.

When I set goals I do so in categories.  Now these categories should be familiar to you.  I have taken them with disregard to the actual meaning from an important Scripture verse.  Although I do not think this verse is talking about goal setting the four part break down does help me in categorizing my goals.

Goals and Resolutions–Part 3

You can read the first two parts in the series here.  In part one we discussed why I think it is beneficial for Christians to set goals.  In part two I laid out some principles for good goal setting.  In part three of this series I want to talk about a key element in reaching your goals.

Looking over the last few years that I have set goals for myself I have recognized a pattern developing.  This pattern has to do with what goals I have been able to achieve and what goals I have failed to reach.  All things being equal (i.e. if both goals were good goals as laid out in my last post) I was more likely to achieve the goal that I took the time to plan out how it would be accomplish. If I had a strategy for achievement then it was far more likely that I would achieve.
