Verses that Provide Strength During Times of Grieving

Sometimes it is important to allow Scripture to speak to us during times of hurt.  I want to share with you a list of Scriptures that will provide Strength During Times of Suffering.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Power in the Blood

There is truly wonder working power in the blood of the lamb! When Christians understand this power, they are blessed and confident in their relationship with God. Without this power, we are forever lost! Consider the power available to us through the blood of Christ!

In the blood of Jesus, there is power to testify of his humanity! Jesus really was a flesh and blood man like all of us. He was tempted in every way that we are, yet without sin! He was the perfect human being and the perfect sacrifice.. Ancient false teachers tried to deny that he was ever really a man, but the blood that gushed from his side when the soldier pierced him speaks with an unmistakable voice. He was a real human being who bled like the rest of us! He understands because he was one of us!

Psalm of Praise for my Daughter

I wrote this for a class this week.  It has to do with the upcoming birth of my daughter and the struggles before hand.

A Song of Praise.  During the life of Wesley.

After a year of Great Blessing from the Lord

I called unto the Lord, and he heard me

I delivered a plea unto my God, and he responded

When times looked dark, the Lord was my light.

He was my strength, when my hands were low.

Give praise to the Lord, all the earth

Give praise to the Lord, all the sea

Give praise to the Lord, all the starry hosts

To whom are you listening?

To whom or to what are you really listening in your life? Where do you get the direction  and vision for your behavior, your goals, and your plans? Many are not listening carefully to the Bible, either because they have accepted a low view of what the Bible actually is, or because other voices command their attention. Here are some reasons why I believe we should listen to God and his word.

We should listen to the Bible because of the claims of Jesus. Jesus clearly claimed to be sent from God. As the one sent by the Father, Jesus said that he was speaking the very words of God. When the crowds in Jerusalem argued over his identity and his teaching, Jesus said, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.” Jesus claimed that his words were the rock on which a solid life is built. He claimed that his words would judge the souls of men in the last day. If these claims are true, we should listen to Jesus above all others.

Shared Story and Purpose

I was listening to a TED talk by General Stanley McChrystal recently.  His topic was concerning leadership.   He shared a story of the time he was gathered with his troops.  They had had a traumatic event occur and so as their leader he addressed them.  At the end of the address he asked a question, “Where were you on 9/11?” He waited for a moment and one person spoke up and said, I was in the 6th grade.

This army Ranger serving in Afghanistan reminded the general that within his force there were people with different experiences, language, and skill-set.  However, they all had one thing in common a shared purpose.
