Let us Consider

Hebrews 10:24 and 25 speaks of Christians assembling together.  It is a part of a series of third person commands (Let us statements).  The Hebrew writer roots these statements in the confidence that we have in Jesus.  This confidence in Jesus should lead us to certain actions.  One such action is “encouraging one another to love and good works.”

The assembling of the saints has several purposes in Scripture. Let’s remember today that one of those purposes is to encourage our brothers and sisters to greater service to God. Do not waste today!

God is in Control

Vacation Bible School is a wonderful thing. It teaches kids to enjoy and learn about incredible accounts found in the scriptures. It is a unique way to get information to stick in the minds of children. Plus, who doesn’t love snack time?

Although Vacation Bible School is great for children, it is nothing more than a foundation. Unfortunately, many Christians never build on this foundation. To grow in age while retaining an elementary faith is a scary place to be. We must do everything possible to have a mature faith. So today, we are going to look at Daniel(a popular VBS theme), but we are going to dig a little deeper into the word(so now would be a great time to get your Bible). It’s time for Vacation Bible School for Teens/Grown Ups!

Truth

I’ve been doing work on 2 and 3 John this week and so my mind is on truth.  One cannot understand these two short letters without first comprehending what the author means by truth.  Truth is something that is genuine. That is real.  It is the opposite of falsehood.

Truth, though, is more than something you attest to.  Truth is something we abide in, something that we live.  Christians practice truth.  We abide in truth.  Our lives are centered in truth and it is seen in what we do.  Truth that is unadorned is worthless. Today, how will you practice and abide in truth?

Good Friends

At some point I have planned to write a series on friendship.  This will go up at some point next year here on the site. But I was reminded of one part of friendship that I want to share with my readers now.

Proverbs says:

Wounds from a friend can be trusted.

Good friends are honest.  They are willing to tell you the hard things because they care for you.  Their words aren’t meant to hurt, they are not meant to incite, but rather they are meant to prod, correct, and sometimes even rebuke.  I am blessed with good friends.  Friends who will say the tough things when I need to hear it.  Friends who will tell me the truth when it might not be the most pleasant thing.

Look Back

This past week this blog post over 200 posts and 500 comments.  I think all of you who have read from the beginning and all of you who have joined the past couple of months.  Here is the first post explaining my reasons for doing this.

I’ve debated for a long time about whether or not to start a website/blog.  These debates have been at times fierce and agonizing but they have always centered around the question of why?  Why would anyone read what I have to say?  Why would I add to the constant expansions of voices in the vast worldwide web?   At the end I always found some excuse to not start or allowed negativity to win out.
