Using our Words wisely

Words are powerful things. They have the power of life and death. God chose to reveal himself to man in words. Much of the impact we have on others comes through our words. So, realizing how powerful our words can be, what kinds of things do you say to others?

What we say reflects the contents of the heart. Like a treasure chest, each soul stores up ideas, attitudes, wishes, and agendas. From this storehouse of feelings, emotions, and ideas, we pour forth our words. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. What kinds of things come from your heart and out your mouth?

Christ’s Human Nature

One of the most necessary challenges that a man or woman of God must undertake is to seek answers.  Luke sets an incredible example to the believers by being an investigator of our Messiah.  This is significant because it is very likely that Luke was not actually an eye witness of Christ’s ministry(1:1-4).  In his gospel’s prologue, Luke states that he has “carefully investigated everything from the beginning(1:3).”  Luke’s investigation of the life of Christ certainly gives his gospel a unique perspective.  Perhaps for this reason, the gospel of Luke is such an intimate look into the human nature of Jesus Christ as he lived on this earth.

May 21st 6p.m. Is this when Jesus returns?

You probably have heard by now that the rapture will occur at 6 p.m. on this Saturday.  That is 6 p.m. Pacific Time in case you want to set your alarms.  A man by the name of Harold Camping has worked through the Biblical text and has found clear evidence for this date.   Highway advertisement boards have been bought, and broadcasts have been paid for to make sure individuals hear the news.

Of course, this is not the first time that Mr. Camping has made this claim.  Last time he states he was simply mistaken.  This should tell us something about his credibility as a prophet. However, since I have been asked let me share a few thoughts on this subject.

How to lead your children?

All souls belong to God. Each one is precious. When he entrusts souls to us by giving us children, God expects us to lead them spiritually. He expects us to point those children toward God.  He has warned us sternly about causingany child to turn his/her back on God and be lost. So,with such a powerful responsibility before us as parents, how shall we lead our children?

To lead our children takes time. We must be involved in the lives of our children to the extent that we are spending time with them regularly and in a variety of circumstances. Time spent when we sit in the house and walk by the way and lie down and rise up increases our influence.

To tell the Truth

“The weight of lies’ll bring you down and follow you to every town…” – Scott Avett

A quick look at the sports headlines from the last week makes it quite obvious that we live in a dishonest society. For starters, we have Tiger Woods. He regained some fans from his performance at the Masters, but his dishonest lifestyle of the past few years continues to keep old fans from cheering for him. Barry Bonds was convicted of obstruction of justice yesterday because of his deceptiveness in answering questions under oath. Manny Ramirez was busted for steroids last weekend. Instead of taking the mandatory 100 game suspension for his second offense, he simply retired, avoiding the punishment altogether. That’s just the sports news for the last week. We could look into Hollywood or the political world and find even more deception and dishonesty.
