WORSHIP GOD, NOT WORSHIP

We worship our Creator-God “precisely because he is worthy, DELIGHTFULLY SO.”  What ought to make worship delightful to us is not, in the first instance, its novelty or its aesthetic beauty, but its object: God himself is delightfully wonderful, and we learn to delight in him.

In an age increasingly suspicious of (linear) thought, there is much more respect for the “feeling” of things–whether a film or a church service. It is disturbingly easy to plot surveys of people, especially young people, drifting from a church of excellent preaching and teaching to one with excellent music because, it is alleged, there is “better worship” there. But we need to think carefully about this matter. Let us restrict ourselves for the moment to corporate worship. Although there are things that can be done to enhance corporate worship, there is a profound sense in which excellent worship cannot be attained merely by pursuing excellent worship. In the same way that, according to Jesus, you cannot find yourself until you lose yourself, so also you cannot find excellent corporate worship until you stop trying to find excellent corporate worship and pursue God himself. Despite the protestations, one sometimes wonders if we are beginning to worship WORSHIP rather than worship GOD. As a brother put it to me, it’s a bit like those who begin by admiring the sunset and soon begin to admire themselves admiring the sunset.

What I’ve learned in Five Years of Marriage?

Today is my 5th anniversary.  So this got me thinking about what I have learned in my five years of marriage.  This list is not exhaustive and I would love to see you put what marriage has taught you in the comments section.

1. God was right, the shared life is better.  It is nice to share life with someone.  To ask them “did you see that,” when some cool event just happened.  To tell them about your day (good or bad).  For me life is more enjoyable when I can laugh at a joke together or talk about dreams with  my wife.

Deity of Christ–Conclusion

I hope you have enjoyed Cliff’s Sabroe’s series on the Deity of Christ.  You can read the earlier articles by clicking the links below.

Conclusion

One of the clearest teachings in Scripture is the Deity of Christ. Countless pages could be penned to expound upon the innumerable verses that express this teaching. One needs to be prepared to teach people about the Divine nature of Jesus, for it is necessary to understand in order to be saved. Jesus plainly taught in John 8:24 “Unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins”.

Insane Clown Posse and Christianity

If you have followed “Christian” news the last few days then you might have heard that a rap group called the Insane Clown Posse came out as Christians.  In fact they said they have been Christians for the entirety of their career.

Now this came as a shock to me, as it does others.  ICP is not known for family friendly lyrics (and that might be the understatement of the year).  Their  songs promote promiscuity, murder, violence, and if you had to put out a radio version of their songs then you probably would not have much left to listen to.

Christ Welcomed and Received Worship

One of the clearest teachings in the entire Bible is the fact that only God is deserving of worship. In the Ten Commandments it reads “You shall have no other Gods before Me” (Ex. 20:3). Jesus reiterated a similar point to Satan when He answered him in Matthew 4:10 saying “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve”. God is the only one worthy of being worshiped, so if anywhere in Scripture we find Jesus being worshiped, then He is either a sinner (which violates Heb. 4:15) or He is God.
