Good articles, what I have read, Wesley. As for Mollie's comment, what we put into our brain is who we are. An old computer geek once said "garbage in, garbage out." That applies to the type of entertainment in which we partake. You cannot step in manure without getting stink on you!

Jesus is in charge of His church, His body, the church of Christ. He lived "by the Book", fulfilled prophecies about Himself, and reminded folks often how important Bible study is by saying..."Have ye not read?" When someone complains that we are quoting too much Scripture, then the problem is not with what we are saying, or with God is saying. They are the same.

Thank you for your words Wes. May our God of all comfort guide and direct your heart and help you heal. If I were there, I would give a heartfelt hug. Your life has an influence upon more people than you realize. Jesus loves you. Jesus loves the family of God you minister with. There will be joy in the morning and in the mourning - comfort God gives. Pray on preacher, pray on!

Thanks for the reading! Thoughts like these have always intrigued me. A parallel view might be this: who is really "in charge" of making disciples? Or, who is really "in charge" of the body of Christ (in terms of numbers)? His church will never become obsolete! When I read my bible, I am constantly amazed at how God provides the faithful "few" to fulfill His desires. If you are a member of the one true church, then do not fear the "nay-sayers" who attempt to dissuade you from consistent pursuit of doing everything "by the book." God knows those who are His. God also knows who will become His. Therefore, continue to preach and teach the Word - let God give the increase!

As someone who is well guilty of having watched too many things he shouldn't, I will say that I think there is a difference in the purpose of some films. A Christian has no business, for example, seeing some teen Spring Break flick that will be a constant romp of sexually explicit content or "slasher gore." There are some films that are not meant for "entertainment" (in terms of viewing entertainment as something to distract and amuse us) but are shown in theaters to tell a story that allows us to look into the reality of something.

If a Christian is mature enough discern what he/she hears views a film about someone's struggles, and characters in the film realistically use curse words in their dialogue, I do not think they are sinning. Moviemakers include such language for different reasons. Some do it literally do make a buck off of foul talk, others do it because it's a realistic way people in the world talk, and to pretend they don't talk that way is dishonest. When you have an emotional scene of a family falling apart because of the consequences of sinful decisions, and they happen to be cussing at each other, the director isn't saying, "see, isn't cursing fun?"

However, with the wonders of technology, I think it is true that if we have the ability to filter what comes through our TV, we should take advantage of that. My wife and I are having our first child soon, and that's given me motivation to go out and buy one of those machines.

I think what is commonly called the tribulation is a misreading of the book of Revelation. My interpretation of the Revelation of John is that what took place is imagery not in our future, but in our past. Specifically it has to do with the persecution faced by Christians in the Roman Empire and how God would act on their behalf.
