Not sure if this will be a weekly thing, but I preached this morning and want to share my sermon (and thoughts) with this community. For some of you it will be a refresher of this morning’s lesson (with a little added) for others it will be new. Either way I hope you learn from it. And like always interact in the comments.
The gospel of Luke was written to provide confidence to Theophilus (Luke 1:3,4). It has been preserved for us to learn about Jesus (Luke) and the early Christians (Acts). It gives an opportunity to correct, change, or be convinced of what we have been taught. In Luke 9:57-62 we are reminded of the necessity of commitment and perseverance in our relationship with Jesus. We do not serve Jesus on our terms, but on His. Nor can we be partially committed, or conveniently committed. Instead, we must commit ourselves to be His disciples and not turn back.
In order to motivate people to commitment I brought up three reasons why commitment is so important (add more in the comments). My three were:
1. The Mission is Too Great, Not to be
2. The Love of Christ Compels us to be
3. God is for us, so we have no reason not to be
Remember this week that God has invited us into his wonderful kingdom. We have the privilege of being co-laborers with Him. This blessing deserves our sacrificial commitment.
