Will Christians stop listening to Lady Gaga?

I’m hoping this post is totally unneeded.   However, I felt compelled to write.  This past week Lady Gaga came to Nashville.  From the News Reports the show was packed.  People dressed in all types of weird costumes and waited for the doors to open.  Honestly, I’m not much into pop music.  In fact, I normally have my radio dial set to some form of talk radio.  However,  I know who Lady Gaga is.

That being said I can’t say I have paid a lot of attention to her.  This changed though with her last couple of songs.  First, she had the song born this way.  It was as high as the Billboard Top 2, and is now sitting at number 13.  One section of the song goes:

Not matter gay, straight, or bi

Lesbian, transgendered life

I’m on the right tract, baby

I was born to survive

The point of the song is that God made us how we are.  It teaches the point that there really is not evil or sin.  There are no deviant lifestyles.  Instead, we are all born the way we are and therefore should live our life on our own “tract.”

Her newest song, which debut at number 10, is untitled “Judas.”  It is obvious, by her release of the single during the Easter Holiday, that she wanted it to be shocking.  According to an interview, the song itself uses Judas as a metaphor for darkness that resulted from a bad relationship.  She wants to come to the light, but is unable because she is still in love with Judas (metaphor for a boyfriend who keeps her in darkness).

However, I do wonder how many of those listening are actually understanding the song.  At face value it appears to be a song in praise of the man who betrayed our Lord, and I understand completely why Christians would be offended by this, but actually another section of the song caught my attention.

It is the section that goes:

In the most Biblical Sense

I am beyond repentace

Fame hooker, prostitute wench, vomits her mind

But in the cultural sense

I speak in future tense

When asked about this, Lady Gaga explained that she viewed herself as an example of what women will be like in the future.  She is a trailblazer of sorts, who wants other women to follow her.

This is what worries me the most.  She obviously has a huge platform.  And she intends on using that platform to influence other women to follow her lead.

So, where is she leading?  Well look at her songs.  She is leading, those who are listening, to a worldview with no sin or evil.  To a radical acceptance of all sorts of deviant lifestyles of being equally good.  To a mindset that is outside the Biblical view of womanhood.  Ultimately, she is leading a host of people down the broad way to destruction.

My question to those reading:  Will you keep on listening?  Will you let your kids keep on listening?  Or, do you, like me, believe it is time for Christians to turn off Lady Gaga?

  1. I’m building a new web site, but what I want to say is that my teenage daughter has moved closer to making Jesus the Lord of her life since hearing some of Lady Gaga’s most recent songs.

  2. I’m so glad for your daughter, Allen. I’m afraid, though, that most young people will go in the other direction, especially with the multitude of messages of this sort that bombard them each and every day.

I don’t listen to Lady Gaga and I find her “look” trashy at best. I listen to many of today’s songs and can’t believe the lyrics. They thought my generation was bad!

While I’m not a government-control person, I do think music carries a strong message to young people. I don’t know what the answer is, but when today’s latest music idol is singing this stuff, a lot of kids are going to be listening.

Like Modana before Her Lady agahas a look of being thrown together from a Garbage dump and her lerics are straigt cesspool thinking she can not raise her head above the Cesspool. She is a lost person heading toward the cliff with no brakes so as Christians wemust point out her sinfulness ad pray forn her to find the reality her songs and life style lack. I don’tgenerally listen to her but I have read some of the lerics she use and find them devoid of truth and bankrupt in thougt.

  4. The problem is we have too many liberals standing behind the pul pits in America who will try to justify “Christian” rock music as being Christian. Therefore, why should “music” that Gaga “sings” be considered any different? Just because a song mentions Jesus’ name doesn’t make it Christian. Because if that’s the case, one could argue that the song that came out in the earlier 1970′s, “Jesus is alright with me” by the Doobie Brothers as being Christian. Or you have the guy that will admit that such music “isn’t” Christian but will try to justify country music instead. Or you now have people who “sing” rap music like MC Hammer (the “Rev.” MC Hammer) telling people that rap music is “Christian” too! It simply proves that either they are very navie about what the Bible (AV1611) clearly states or they were never Christians to begin with. If the music sounds like the “worlds” music, it’s not Christian no matter what pretty words they add to it. And that’s the bottom line.

  5. well I personally am a fan of lady gaga and im christian and a teenager and I believe that she is quite religious and she even says that. since when did preaching about quality and love become wrong? and thats all what she is about while many people are trying to bring her down. thats it 😀

  6. Below is the link to a YouTube karaoke video with the praise and worship lyrics to the song “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga. It is called “Chose This Way” and can be sung to the Lord with these lyrics.

I think the issue is not really Lady Gaga…our generation is messed up. Too many artists are allowed to spew these sexual-infused songs. I’d be nice to have pop artists who sang songs without any sexuality in them.

That being said, I believe that we can still be a Christian and listen to Lady Gaga as long as we keep our relationship pure with God and make sure we’re straight with Him.

As a christians, we must have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness (lady gaga’s satan-inspired songs) but rather reprove them! Ephesians 5:11

Lady gaga has sold her soul to satan to be rich and famous! All her songs are clearly of the devil!! Christians should stop listening to her songs not only her songs are sinful and blasphemous but by listening to those, you’re actually opening doors for the evil spirits to enter your heart (devils are attracted to sins)! Little do you know that gaga’s songs (and other famous artists’ as well) are the instruments that satan uses to corrupt youngsters’ mind! Look at today’s world! Homosexualities, premarital sexs, abortions are so common among the young generations! Why? Because they’re all brainwashed by today’s world evil media and entertainments (songs, tv shows, movies etc) they’re being told that it’s ok to sin because the Bible says that God is merciful and will not send everybody to hell. That’s a lie!! Ephesians 5:5 – For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. God is love and He is holy! He loves sinners but hates sins! Wake up people!!! Read the bible and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance, do not ignore any verses that speak the truths you’ll find offensive beacuse the bible will never lie, truth is truth! Ignore any so-called christians who tell you it’s ok to commit sins but pray for them! The end is near, satan is now trying to bring more and more people into hell with him because he knows that he will burn in the lake of fire in the second coming of Christ! He’s now deceiving people by using all sorts of entertainments, religions, false doctrines etc. Don’t be a fool for the devil! Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven!

  9. I recently moved from Nashville, but lived there for over 4 1/2 years…I lived downtown when GaGa’s tour came through and walked down with my dog out of curiosity. I watched silently, praying internally all the while . . . left feeling sad for SO many (I can’t imagine how the Father feels). I was and am still reminded that the Lord loves all and expects us to reach out to the secular world. However, I agree . . . those in the church, CLAIMING to be the Body of Christ, yet seem to be one foot in, and one foot out are either choosing to live a luke-warm life, or are ignorantly opening themselves up to a world that clearly isn’t ruled by the Father and His Word. As we approach what certainly seems to be the last days . . . it’s becoming more and more clear to me what, “my people will perish for lack of knowledge …” TRULY means. There is so much work to be done, and we ALL need to be loving AND yet remain FIRM on the rock. All the while, mindful of what exactly that means to those looking in on our behavior(s) and “what” we do/support/LISTEN to/participate in … (from both those in the world AND those claiming Christ, who have clearly been misguided).

  10. remember my last comment? Just ignore it. I was wrong. Lady gaga like many other “artists” are ruining the minds of young people

  11. im a teenager and really love to listen to songs.
An interesting fact that my pastor said a couple of weeks ago is

” Whatever does not come from God can only have one other source, Satan”.

this hit me very very hard, so i took measures into my own hands and decided to stop listening to songs which include direct reference to God or Jesus not existing. Artists such as ‘Jay – Z’.

However im not able to quit listening to Lady Gaga, this is because not all her songs are about biblical terms & i actually like the song. It would of been better if there were no biblical terms.

The meaning is that IF YOU DONT LET THE MUSIC / LYRICS GET TO YOU. I think you’re alright and there is no harm in listeneing to this song. 🙂
    Have a good day!

omg. im not a christian , but im doing a paper on lady gaga and was thinking of writing on how christians think of her…… any more comments? it would be interesting to know what you think….

  13. Really… please explain why you do not crucify any of the other artists, like the cast of High School Musical? Or Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus), the Jonas Brothers… focusing on 1 because she’s too obvious. Watch the video link then think again about who you judge, because as your bible says, “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” – Matthew 7

  14. well what you said is right, and i stopped listening to lady gaga just after judas and i deleted those songs indeed..well i love to listen to her songs but because of the lyrics and the music video, it’s really too sinful to me >.< just sharing my thoughts here..
