Worship Thoughts

But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Saviour on the same day rose from the dead.

–Justin the Martyr

This quote written by a Christian from the Second Century lays out two reasons why the Saints gather on Sunday to worship God.  He states we worship as a common assembly on these days because:

1. God began creation on this day.

2. Jesus rose from the Grave on this day.

Creation and Resurrection. Two great reasons to worship God.  Today as we gather to worship with fellow saints let us worship the God who created us and the God who redeemed us!

  1. I appreciate how the issue of worship is clarified; coming to God in a spirit is needed, and is an encouraged practice in the Bible. However, I haven’t found anywhere, in my own personal study, that Sunday was the day sanctioned by God as the day to worship Him. Can you clarify your statement by texts from the Bible? I’m sure Justin the Martyr would approve of you doing so. Maybe I haven’t come across those texts where Sunday replaced the seventh day (Saturday according to the Gregorian calendar which is also called the Christian calendar). Please help me in my quest for truth. Thanks!
